Organization Overview

Our mission is to serve the community through compassionate nonjudgmental support, education, and care for the prevention of HIV/AIDS/STI. We are committed to serving all people infected or affected with HIV/AIDS in a non-judgmental and confidential environment, regardless of means of transmission or the ability to pay.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Executive Director will oversee all activities of the Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina (AASC) including: fiscal management, programs and active grants, prevention and education, public relations, operations, fundraising, grant writing, and the general day-to-day management of the organization.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Organizational Leadership, Strategic Planning and Collaboration

  • Provide guidance to the organization in the development of policies consistent with the goals of AASC. Provide interpretation of the policies to the staff and the general public and assume responsibility for implementation of policy.
  • Provide direct supervision to senior staff in the execution of policies and Code of Standards.
  • Oversee the fiscal affairs of AASC in accordance with applicable laws, policies, regulations and Board requirements. This includes working with the Treasurer and agency bookkeeper(s) to develop the annual budget and the monthly treasurer’s report and working with the independent auditor annually to present the audited financial statements.
  • Maintain appropriate working relationships with the Board, staff, community, donors, government funders, civic clubs, media, and the public in general.
  • Public relations duties include: presentations to the Board, foundations, agencies of funding, formal press releases and attendance at meetings on local, regional, state and national levels.
  • Provide strategic planning and leadership in establishing short and long range goals and objectives for the organization ensuring sustainability and expansion.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure that the program goals and objectives of the organization are met.
  • Provide discretion and judgment on disciplinary issues, hiring procedures, compensation plans and employee conflicts.

Development and Fundraising

  • Lead efforts to identify new funding and secure grant opportunities appropriate to AASC.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the donor database.
  • Actively participate in the planning, support and execution of fundraising events.
  • Be the “face of the agency” with donors, potential donors, community partners and funders

Board Relations

  • Attend all Board meetings.
  • rovide regular updates on key programs, funding issues, developments and opportunities.
  • rovide an Executive Director summary focused on outcomes and strategic decisions during each monthly Board meeting.
  • Advise Board on upcoming matters and issues affecting AASC and provide recommendations and guidance on same.

Staff Development

  • Maintain open lines of communication with all staff members and effectively manage staff members according to authorized HR policies and procedures.
  • Coach and develop senior staff members to achieve success in their roles.
  • Present to the Board plans for sustainable staffing that will support strategic planning goals.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university or college or commensurate experience in the field. Master’s level education preferred in fields of public health, social work, or public administration.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a non- profit leadership position or related management/supervisory experience.
  • Passionate about the prevention of HIV and serving the clients of AASC and the community.
  • A minimum of 3 years of grant writing or development experience is preferred
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • 340 B and Quick Books experienced preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity.
  • Willingness to work with a diversified population, including volunteers and clients.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and procedures of the assigned tasks.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Excellent team-building and mentoring skills.
  • Awareness and commitment to AASC’s mission statement and values as well as standards under the ADA and EEOC.

Salary Range

$55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience.
