The Alliance is facing considerable challenges, as all of us are right now. CDC guidelines to contain the spread of COVID-19 have required us to suspend all HIV/STI testing, close our food pantry, and discontinue our walk-in support services.
This, however, does not mean we have quit. See How the Alliance is Responding to the Virus below. People are our core mission, and through hope and determination we will continue to serve. In times like this, it is hope and determination that carry us through.
We need not remind anyone of the other virus that came out of nowhere and ravaged our communities a short 40 years ago. It was with hope and determination that we faced those times, and we will do the same now.
Despite the worldwide pandemic, the signs of spring give us new hope and a welcome reprieve from winter’s lingering despair. The inspiring stories of ordinary people rising up to help those in need draws us closer to one another, and as they engage in these compassionate actions, so must we.

How the Alliance is Responding to the Virus
The safety and welfare of our staff, volunteers, and clients is our number one priority. When the pandemic first began, Alliance staff began taking progressive steps to stay safe. Our modified work processes are outlined below.
- The Prevention Team is connecting with clients by phone to offer support, test results, and referrals to open community resources. They continue to make referrals for PrEP, treatment for HIV and STIs and offer virtual HIV Education workshops in partnership with the LGBT Center of Raleigh.
- The Care and Support Team is supporting clients by phone and tele-health to offer referrals, connections to emergency financial assistance, and a listening ear. They have continued the Nourishment and Encouragement program that provides home delivery of life-sustaining food and household supplies for People Living with HIV/AIDS living in rural communities.
- The Community Engagement Team is diligently searching and applying for new sources of funding to support our day-to-day operations that sustain our outreach and support of People Living with HIV/AIDS.
- We are working to find more creative and safe ways to get food to clients and qualifying families who normally visit our pantry.
Help Us – Help YOU
We are a community-based service organization and our mission is alive today as much as ever. We now are fully engaged in finding additional funds to carry us forward. In addition, we are searching for ways that we can continue to stay connected and serve our communities.
Do you have ideas as to how we can do that? It does not matter how far-fetched the idea may seem, please share them! E-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In times like this, we’re reminded of how interconnected we all are. Thank you for being part of our community. Without you, none of it is possible.
